At times, MarineFisheries is called upon to give river herring a helping hand to assist river herring on their journey to reach their spawning grounds. This past Thursday, with the help of the Plymouth Department of Natural Resources, we trapped and transported 1,500 alewives and released them upstream into Billington Sea.

Town Brook has undergone years of extensive restoration efforts championed by the Town and their DNR staff. It is great to see river herring coming back in huge numbers to the point where we can provide them a taxi service (free of charge) to alleviate the rush hour traffic.
